HKUST Engineering Showcased Innovation and Experiential Learning at Alumni Reunion and STEM Day

The HKUST Alumni Reunion 2024 on Saturday, January 13 provided an incredible opportunity for alumni to catch a glimpse of the latest developments of their alma mater. 

At the “Satellite Remote Sensing” mini-lecture, Prof. SU Hui, a former NASA researcher and an atmospheric scientist of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, gave an in-depth look at HKUST-FYBB#1 - the first satellite launched by a local university, generating a great deal of interest among the audience in the future plan of the HKUST satellite program. 

Held in the Fei Chi En Dream Team Open Lab, the “Little Engineers” workshop was fully occupied by children of our alumni. Under the careful instructions of current HKUST students, participants of elementary school age were able to get hands-on experience with small motor car project, leaving them wide-eyed with excitement. 

HKUST School of Engineering places a strong emphasis on experiential learning, it is important to commence STEM education at a young age. Coinciding with the Alumni Reunion, interdisciplinary teams within the School of Engineering joined hands to organize the STEM Day, which featured a wide array of entertaining and educational activities for primary and secondary school students. Led by the Center for Global & Community Engagement and elite competition teams, current students helped organize around 20 DIY activities, workshops, and tasters, offering the young participants a fully immersive and highly interactive learning experience.

Alumni Reunion 2024
The HKUST Senior Management, along with a star-studded lineup of guest speakers and performers, inaugurated the Alumni Reunion 2024 in the Hong Kong Jockey Club Atrium.

STEM Day Activities
Drawing the collaborative resources and talents from the Center for Global & Community Engagement and five student teams, around 20 hands-on activities were organized to engage primary and secondary students into STEM education.
