香港科技大學機械及航空航天工程學系應屆畢業生梁嘉朗，憑藉有關縮窄航運業與環保發展方針差距的論文，勇奪知名的國際工程大獎。
Arthur L Williston獎是美國機械工程師學會的年度獎項，而梁嘉朗則是首位獲得該項殊榮的香港人，亦為獎項成立62年來少數女性得獎者。她的獲獎論文名為「規管燃料選擇 — 縮窄國際海事組織現行標準與2025年溫室氣體排放目標的差距」（“Fuel Choice Regulation - The Way to Narrow the Gap Between Current IMO Marine Standard and 2025 Greenhouse Gas Emission Target”）。
機械工程學生及近屆畢業生可就專門公共服務範疇提交論文，獲選最佳論文的作者將贏得此獎項。梁嘉朗的論文聚焦於她對環境的關注，並闡述美國航運業如何能透過生物柴油、天然氣和核能降低二氧化碳排放，同時兼顧環保成效、技術成熟度、基建配套和生命週期成本等因素。
梁嘉朗表示：「雖然工程界一向由男性主導，但身為熱衷於環保工程的女性，我希望此獎項能使我獲得業界肯定。」
梁嘉朗表示科大幫助她了解到機械工程與日常生活息息相關，激發起她這方面的興趣。梁嘉朗希望以自身經歷鼓勵其他工程系女畢業生突破性別界限，勇於追求事業。「父母曾擔心我能否適應業界環境，但我認為現時業界對女性工程師已提供相當平等的工作環境。」
她又補充，「女性工程師最大的優勢是我們善於表達自己和傳達想法。 這正好彌補我們對比男性工程師體能上的不足。」
梁嘉朗在一家污水處理公司完成實習後，現已獲正式聘用，得以在業界一展所長。
