The HKUST Faculty Recognition Ceremony 2024 acknowledged the outstanding academic achievements of 22 faculty members in the 2022-23 academic year, including 11 who are from the School of Engineering or hold a joint position in the School.
Prof. Ping K. Ko, HKUST Honorary Fellow and former Dean of Engineering, gave an insightful talk to School of Engineering faculty members on October 23, 2024.
The first “Industry Connects University” biannual forum on digital transformation cum CSE Get-together on October 25 drew 140 industry partners, faculty members, alumni and students. The occasion marked the first event that took place at the newly renovated Engineering Commons after its official opening on October 17.
The “HKUST-ExxonMobil iSTEAM Program 2024 – Smartbot Sports Day” drew around 150 students and teachers from 15 primary and secondary schools to experience and learn about STEAM, collaboration and leadership.

The research team, led by Prof. Shen Yajing (second left) from the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, has designed an optical fiber-based submillimeter continuum robot for interventional treatment in narrow cavities, which looks like a small tube as the one held by Dr. Zhang Tieshan (second right) in the photo. The devices held by Dr. Yang Xiong (first left) and Zhao Haoxiang (first right) serve as controllers for the robot arm and the magnetic field, respectively.
Prof. Charles Ng (center) received the R.M. Quigley Award at the Canadian Geotechnical Conference, which was held on September 15-18, 2024, in Montreal, Quebec.
