Alumni Kaleidoscope: Prerna Agarwal - BBA(IS)

Upon graduation, Prerna worked briefly with UBS before deciding to explore the potential of her family's gemstone business. She pursued further studies in Gemology and Jewelry Design at the Gemological Institute of America, during which she gained an interest in the industry and unlocked her talent to create innovative Fine Jewelry using gold and diamonds. Prerna has now incorporated her own fine jewelry line, Shloka Jewels, to the family business.

Shloka jewels offers lightweight gold and diamond jewelry for the modern woman as well as engagement rings for couples. The brand has been cited by local media such as South China Morning Post, Time Out Magazine and Lifestyle Asia. Her collection can be seen on popular online retailers such as Plukka, as well as Hong Kong celebrities and fashion bloggers. Prerna plans to expand her business to an online platform, as well as introduce a new Silver jewelry line for budget-savvy consumers.

Prerna is grateful to her alma mater for tapping her entrepreneurial talents. "My favorite classes were Entrepreneurship and Negotiation, and my favorite aspect of the Business School was the opportunities outside the classroom, international case competitions, exchange-out, guest lectures and many more. I loved the opportunities to present and challenge myself in a global setting," she says.
