王者教授及楊嘉川教授獲2023年度國家優秀青年科學基金
兩位來自土木及環境工程學系的助理教授王者及楊嘉川，獲頒國家自然科學基金2023年度優秀青年科學基金（港澳），他們每人將獲得人民幣200萬元的資助，支持他們在香港分別在「建築熱環境」及「城市氣象學」領域進行開創性研究，資助期限為三年。
「優秀青年科學家基金項目」是針對年青科學家（男性未滿38歲和女性未滿40歲）的科研資助計劃。項目支持在基礎研究方面已取得較好成績的年輕學者，在其自選的研究方向進一步開展研究，促進培育有望進入世界科技前沿的優秀學術人才。
項目自2019年起開放予香港及澳門八間大學的年青學者申請，每年於港澳地區只有共25名學者獲選，競爭相當激烈，甄選亦十分嚴謹。本年香港科技大學共有三位學者獲此殊榮，除了來自工學院的王者教授及楊嘉川教授外，工商管理學院的吉岩教授亦入選。
王者教授將利用項目資助開展智能建築控制的研究，以提高能源效率和負載靈活性。他的研究旨在開發模擬工具、虛擬測試平台和智能控制算法，以優化和協調建築和社區的多能源系統的設計和運行。研究的結果將協助社會更高效地實現低碳轉型。
楊嘉川教授將利用資助進行城市氣候的研究，透過結合大渦模擬和數值模式開發，分析高溫高濕背景下冠層內溫濕風廓線的時空分布特徵和演變機理。研究成果有望為城市氣候學科提供新數據、新方法和新知識，為沿海城市的可持續發展和氣候風險管理提供理論基礎和技術支撐。
