王者教授及杨嘉川教授获2023年度国家优秀青年科学基金
两位来自土木及环境工程学系的助理教授王者及杨嘉川，获颁国家自然科学基金2023年度优秀青年科学基金（港澳），他们每人将获得人民币200万元的资助，支持他们在香港分别在「建筑热环境」及「城市气象学」领域进行开创性研究，资助期限为三年。
「优秀青年科学家基金项目」是针对年青科学家（男性未满38岁和女性未满40岁）的科研资助计划。项目支持在基础研究方面已取得较好成绩的年轻学者，在其自选的研究方向进一步开展研究，促进培育有望进入世界科技前沿的优秀学术人才。
项目自2019年起开放予香港及澳门八间大学的年青学者申请，每年于港澳地区只有共25名学者获选，竞争相当激烈，甄选亦十分严谨。本年香港科技大学共有三位学者获此殊荣，除了来自工学院的王者教授及杨嘉川教授外，工商管理学院的吉岩教授亦入选。
王者教授将利用项目资助开展智能建筑控制的研究，以提高能源效率和负载灵活性。他的研究旨在开发模拟工具、虚拟测试平台和智能控制算法，以优化和协调建筑和社区的多能源系统的设计和运行。研究的结果将协助社会更高效地实现低碳转型。
杨嘉川教授将利用资助进行城市气候的研究，透过结合大涡模拟和数值模式开发，分析高温高湿背景下冠层内温湿风廓线的时空分布特征和演变机理。研究成果有望为城市气候学科提供新数据、新方法和新知识，为沿海城市的可持续发展和气候风险管理提供理论基础和技术支撑。
