科大推出首屆卓越研究獎 表揚傑出工程研究成就
作為一所致力領導教育和研究的世界級學府，香港科技大學（科大）一直以其教員的成就為傲。為表揚他們的熱誠和卓越成就，科大工學院於2011年推出首屆卓越研究獎，分別為：「傑出卓越研究獎」、「卓越研究獎」、及「優秀年青研究獎」。獎項將於每年頒發一次。
「傑出卓越研究獎」旨在頒發予表現傑出的教員，其重大的研究成就必須在本地以至國際上具有深遠影響，是三個獎項中最具榮譽的一項。「卓越研究獎」則嘉許在研究上一直保持優秀往績的教員。「優秀年青研究獎」則頒發予極具潛質的年輕教員。

學院特別成立了研究獎委員會，由副校長（研發及研究生教育）李行偉教授擔任主席，選出四名獲獎教授。李教授稱：「獲提名的教授均是在其學術領域的國際知名學者，故競爭非常激烈，遴選過程亦相當嚴謹和審慎。同事在學術上及對社會和業界的重大貢獻得到認同，我感到十分高興。」
工學院院長李德富教授表示：「作為全球最優秀工學院之一，學院致力從事具有重大影響力的研究以及不斷尋求學術突破。教授的顯著成就令我們感到非常驕傲。我們相信該獎項能進一步提升工學院的研究競爭力，並帶動工學院在研究和教育上再創高峰。」
