科大推出首届卓越研究奖 表扬杰出工程研究成就
作為一所致力领导教育和研究的世界级学府，香港科技大学（科大）一直以其教员的成就為傲。為表扬他们的热诚和卓越成就，科大工学院於2011年推出首届卓越研究奖，分别為：「杰出卓越研究奖」、「卓越研究奖」、及「优秀年青研究奖」。奖项将於每年颁发一次。
「杰出卓越研究奖」旨在颁发予表现杰出的教员，其重大的研究成就必须在本地以至国际上具有深远影响，是叁个奖项中最具荣誉的一项。「卓越研究奖」则嘉许在研究上一直保持优秀往绩的教员。「优秀年青研究奖」则颁发予极具潜质的年轻教员。

Matthew McKay（电子及计算机工程学系助理教授）
学院特别成立了研究奖委员会，由副校长（研发及研究生教育）李行伟教授担任主席，选出四名获奖教授。李教授称：「获提名的教授均是在其学术领域的国际知名学者，故竞争非常激烈，遴选过程亦相当严谨和审慎。同事在学术上及对社会和业界的重大贡献得到认同，我感到十分高兴。」
工学院院长李德富教授表示：「作為全球最优秀工学院之一，学院致力从事具有重大影响力的研究以及不断寻求学术突破。教授的显着成就令我们感到非常骄傲。我们相信该奖项能进一步提升工学院的研究竞争力，并带动工学院在研究和教育上再创高峰。」
