Prof Ching W Tang Inducted into US National Inventors Hall of Fame for Research on OLED
Prof Ching W Tang, IAS Bank of East Asia Professor and Chair Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Chemistry and Physics, has been inducted into the US National Inventors Hall of Fame for his ground-breaking research on organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). Prof Tang pioneered the OLED, an advance in flat-screen displays found in computers, cell phones and televisions that provides increased power efficiency, longer battery life and improved display quality.
The OLED technology has been widely used in all electronic devices today. It can be used wherever LCDs are used. They are thinner, lighter, provide superior brightness and color, and offer ultra-fast response time for functions such as refreshing and on-off switching.
Prof Tang has already received numerous awards for his work on organic materials and electronics, including the 2011 Wolf Prize in Chemistry, and the 2004 American Chemical Society Award for Team Innovation. His achievement has been recognized over the world.
