香港科技大學沉痛悼念創校副校長麥法誠先生
香港科技大學(科大) 籌備委員會秘書長兼首任行政及總務副校長麥法誠先生於本月十四日在香港辭世，科大仝人對此表示沉痛哀悼。
對於麥法誠先生的離世，科大校長陳繁昌教授表示﹕「麥法誠先生在科大籌備創校期間盡心盡力為大學作出貢獻，亦是大學成立後初期發展的中流砥柱。雖然他與世長辭，但他永遠是科大的摯友。全賴他和大學其他創校成員的不懈努力，科大才擁有今天的成就。我謹代表大學向麥法誠先生的家人致以最深切的慰問。」
麥法誠先生畢業於英國牛津大學，於1962年來港出任政務主任，展開其公務員生涯。1986年，有鑑於社會期望香港成立一所專注科技的大學，當時的港督尤德爵士任命時任運輸司的麥法誠先生擔任科大籌備委員會秘書長。籌備委員會由鍾士元爵士領導，為科大創校規劃細節，鍾爵士其後成為科大首屆校董會主席。
麥法誠先生當年為科大尋覓創校校長肩負重任，代表籌備委員會遠赴三藩市與時任三藩市州立大學校長兼著名理論物理學家吳家瑋教授會面，邀請他加入籌備委員會。吳教授其後於1987年11月正式成為科大創校校長。
科大籌備委員會的工作於1988年告一段落，新成立的大學校董會任命麥法誠先生為行政及總務副校長，他亦為校董會成員，至1995年退任。
