香港科技大学沉痛悼念创校副校长麦法诚先生
香港科技大学(科大) 筹备委员会秘书长兼首任行政及总务副校长麦法诚先生于本月十四日在香港辞世，科大仝人对此表示沉痛哀悼。
对于麦法诚先生的离世，科大校长陈繁昌教授表示﹕「麦法诚先生在科大筹备创校期间尽心尽力为大学作出贡献，亦是大学成立后初期发展的中流砥柱。虽然他与世长辞，但他永远是科大的挚友。全赖他和大学其他创校成员的不懈努力，科大才拥有今天的成就。我谨代表大学向麦法诚先生的家人致以最深切的慰问。」
麦法诚先生毕业于英国牛津大学，于1962年来港出任政务主任，展开其公务员生涯。1986年，有鉴于社会期望香港成立一所专注科技的大学，当时的港督尤德爵士任命时任运输司的麦法诚先生担任科大筹备委员会秘书长。筹备委员会由钟士元爵士领导，为科大创校规划细节，钟爵士其后成为科大首届校董会主席。
麦法诚先生当年为科大寻觅创校校长肩负重任，代表筹备委员会远赴三藩市与时任三藩市州立大学校长兼著名理论物理学家吴家玮教授会面，邀请他加入筹备委员会。吴教授其后于1987年11月正式成为科大创校校长。
科大筹备委员会的工作于1988年告一段落，新成立的大学校董会任命麦法诚先生为行政及总务副校长，他亦为校董会成员，至1995年退任。
