跨越地域及文化界限
國際化及多元文化是大勢所趨，獨立及多角度思考至為重要。劉天霖(Vanessa)及鄧傳毅(Matthew)最近有機會到美國眾議院議員辦公室實習，擴闊他們的國際視野。
在科大的支持下，人文社會科學學院與美國華盛頓的美國天主教大學(Catholic University of America)建立協議，兩位環球中國研究學系的同學自今年一月起，分別於芝加哥民主黨議員Bobby Rush及阿拉斯加共和黨議員Don Young的辦公室擔任實習生。
除了應付辦公室日常的行政事務，Vanessa及Matthew於擔任實習生期間，獲得了難能可貴的經驗。Vanessa拜訪了逾30個州份的辦公室，對各地不同的文化留下深刻的印象。另一邊廂，Matthew增進了不少有關美國現時政治議題的知識，那些議題在香港並不常見，透過進行背景資料蒐集，他能夠從非公民身分去了解及分析當地時事。
適應當地文化和語言往往是連繫不同文化的橋樑，Vanessa及Matthew於日常生活中放開懷抱，適應新環境，從而克服這個挑戰。他們不僅取得寶貴的工作經驗，更就他們的工作稱職獲得嘉許。最重要的是，他們學習到以多角度思考模式去分析全球時事。
踏入第三年，環球中國研究學系將繼續透過其課程及專題項目，為同學提供更多全球學習機會及全方位教育，務求提升他們對中國及全球的認知。
