香港科技大學協辦首屆IEEE科技領袖研討會
香港科技大學聯同國際電機電子工程師學會（IEEE）及香港應用科技研究院攜手合辦首屆「IEEE科技領袖研討會」。是次研討會以「展望2020年的科技」為主題，探討一系列對人類未來帶來重要影響的前沿科技，除檢視這些科技現時的發展情況，並展望未來的方向。
揭幕典禮於6月1日舉行，主禮嘉賓包括香港特區政府財政司司長曾俊華先生、國際電機電子工程師學會會長GordonDay博士與研討會籌備委員會聯席主席及香港科技大學工學院院長李德富教授。科大工學院核心目標之一是為業界和社會提供具創新和創意的解決方案。透過舉辦是次研討會，李德富教授希望能推動電機電子領域的策略性研究和發展。
香港科技大學校長陳繁昌教授在「環球研發領袖會議」上強調，香港擁有多所一流的高等學府，培育優秀人才，企業可以充份利用這個優勢，成立研發實驗室。根據剛發布的《2011年QS亞洲大學排名》（Quacquarelli Symonds （QS）Asian University Rankings），香港的三所大學高佔首五名。陳繁昌校長提倡，工商界應與大學密切合作，激發更多創新意念。
「環球研發領袖會議」的主講者包括A*Star Singapore董事總經理Teck Seng Low教授﹑瑞典愛立信研究主管JanFäjh先生，及美國Microsoft首席研究員Rico Malvar博士，他們互相分享在不同領域上的最新科研發展，包括無線通訊技術﹑生物醫學﹑微型心血管壓力感測器植入以至智能生活，及有機電子物質。
是次研討會吸引了來自世界各地近200位電機電子專家參加，為期三天的研討會亦安排本港研究人員分享他們在香港多所大學的相關研究成果和應用。
