科大水底機械人小隊於「虛擬RobotX大賽2023」勇奪亞軍
香港科技大學（科大）機械人競賽團隊的其中一支分隊——水底機械人小隊，於「2023年虛擬RobotX大賽」（Virtual RobotX Competition 2023）贏得亞軍。是項模擬海上競賽由美國舉辦，共吸引了來自14個國家和地區的34支隊伍競逐，包括許多來自全球多家頂尖大學的團隊，科大屬首次參與。
科大的團隊共有9名來自不同學科和課程的二年級和三年級本科生，涵蓋計算機工程、計算機科學、電子工程，以及科技及管理學雙學位課程。
「虛擬RobotX大賽」於2019年首次舉辦，讓世界各地的機械人團隊一較高下，利用Gazebo開源3D機械人模擬裝置，於電腦模擬環境中操作水上無人機。該模擬裝置由一家專門開發開源軟件的美國非牟利公司Open Robotics與美國海軍研究所合作開發。參加者需要於電腦模擬環境中為水上無人機構思創新的方案。
