Prof. Jimmy FUNG received Silver Award at The Hong Kong Institute of Planners Awards 2020
Prof. Jimmy FUNG from the Division of Environment & Sustainability also the Associate Director (Undergraduate Studies) of IPO, has received the “Silver Award” at The Hong Kong Institute of Planners Awards 2020 together with experts from Faculty of Architecture of University of Hong Kong, School of Architecture of Chinese University of Hong Kong, Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, Department of Architecture, School of Design and Environment of National University of Singapore, Ronald Lu & Partners (Hong Kong) Ltd., Institute of Future Cities of Chinese University of Hong Kong and PlanArch Consultants Ltd.
The team submitted a research on “Urban Ventilation Assessment and Wind Corridor Plan for Chinese Cities” which is a pioneer study in the world to investigate and quantify effects of major planning and development proposals on urban ventilation.
Rapid urbanisation in China has deteriorated the urban environment. In recent years, the Central Government and local municipalities have introduced urban climatic evaluations into town planning and design practices, in particular to create urban ventilation corridors at city level. The methods and techniques developed in the study have been adopted in the formulation of master plan, urban design and wind corridor plans of over 40 Chinese cities.
The Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP) Awards are given annually to its members and related professionals in recognition of their outstanding achievements in town planning. Through the delivery of awards, HKIP wishes to raise public awareness in good planning principles and practice, and to encourage pursuit of excellence amongst planners in Hong Kong.
