香港科技大学物理学系欧德孟教授荣膺美国物理学会院士
香港科技大学（科大）宣布物理学系主任欧德孟教授荣膺2014年度美国物理学会院士。美国物理学会凝聚态物理分部的赞辞指出：欧德孟教授「开发及利用自旋极化低能量电子显微镜，以了解固体表面的物理现象。」
欧德孟教授于1991年加入科大，成为创办物理学系的成员之一。1997年，欧德孟教授获颁科大理学院教学奖，并由2011年起担任物理学系主任至今。欧德孟教授研究凝聚态物理，以了解固体表面、界面及薄膜纳米结构的形态、动力学、电子和磁学特性，包括扩散与生长、动力学不稳定性，以及量子尺寸效应。
美国物理学会院士颁授计划旨在表扬一些对物理研究、领导或服务、或于科学及科技应用有卓越贡献的会员。经过严谨的遴选程序，每年获选院士的会员不多于会员总数的0.5%，因此所有获选的院士都是备受业内人士尊崇的杰出会员。
