工学院逾二十项发明於第49届日内瓦国际发明展上获嘉许
香港科技大学（科大）在第49届日内瓦国际发明展上取得破纪录的骄人成绩，36支参展队伍一共夺得36个奖项，获奖数目属历年之冠。当中23个获奖项目由工学院教授或校友领导，包括一个评审团嘉许金奖丶七个金奖，以及多个银奖和铜奖。
获「评审团嘉许金奖」的工学院项目，是由科大霍英东研究生院院长及土木及环境工程学系讲座教授吴宏伟教授领导，以都市固体废物制成的无水泥环保砖。其他得奖项目包括应用於人和宠物卫生及化妆品产品的多功能矽微囊技术丶零温室气体弹卡制冷制热技术 － 千瓦级空调原理样机，以及用於高级建筑工地安全监控的大型视觉语言模型为本领域知识丰富生成式人工智能。
是次参展的项目亦包括一些由工学院与政府和行业领导者进行合作的研发项目，以期为社会带来深远的贡献，例如与教育局合作丶专为香港大规模开放在线课程（HKMOOC）而研发的虚拟课程。此外，学院亦与港铁公司和物流及供应链多元技术研发中心合作，分别开发多重交通彷真模型，以估算乘客量，以及结合人工智能丶机械技术和物联网的数位孪生平台，供物管行业使用。
第49届日内瓦国际发明展览会於4月17日至21日在瑞士举行。参展的发明家丶大学丶机构和公司的数量创历史新高。展览囊括了来自约40个国家及地区超过1,000项发明，其中365项发明来自香港。
