张福民教授获选2024年度电机电子工程师学会会士
香港科技大学（科大）郑家纯机器人研究院院长张福民教授，兼电子及计算机工程学系和机械及航空航天工程学系讲座教授，获选电机电子工程师学会（IEEE）的2024年度会士，令拥有IEEE会士名衔的科大工学院教员总数增至45人。
此项殊荣表彰张教授「对机器人传感网络自主化及水下机器人控制的贡献」。他的研究专长包括海洋机器人与自主系统、移动传感器与执行器网络、生物启发的分布式主动感知以及人与自主系统的交互与集成。目前，他还担任香港科技大学—博智林机器人联合研究院院长。
张教授于2023年1月加入科大，在此前担任美国乔治亚理工学院电机及计算机工程学院的院长教授，及该校的决策及控制实验室主任，他自2007年起于该校任教。他于2004年获得马里兰大学（帕克分校）电气工程博士学位，并于2004年至2007年在普林斯顿大学从事博士后研究。
张教授于2009年获得美国国家科学基金会CAREER奖，2010年获得美国国家航空和航天局青年研究员计划奖，并在国际、国家和机构层面获得多项荣誉和奖励。他还在IEEE控制系统学会、IEEE机器人与自动化学会和IEEE海洋工程学会担任领导职务。
IEEE会士衔是为表扬对电机及电子工程领域具有卓著成就的人士而设，不止是IEEE最高级别的会员资格和科技界公认的荣誉，也是获奖人的重要事业成就。IEEE会员遍布190多个国家，总人数超过42万人，每年获奖的人数不超过有投票权的IEEE会员总数的0.1%。
