Sustainable and Smart Campus Week – Net-Zero Journey
After a 3-year long hiatus, the Sustainable Smart Campus as a Living Lab (SSC) is finally bringing back the significant SSC Week to celebrate our 5th year of success in driving the synergy to achieve a sustainable and smart campus for the University community.
SSC week is an important occasion where project leaders, faculty, students, and enthusiasts can share the latest advancements in our SSC projects. It serves as a platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and fostering collaborations that drive innovation among our campus community. The SSC Week was held on 9th to 11th October, 2023, followed by the University-wide Information Day on 14th October, 2023. With the theme of “Net-Zero Journey”, 10 project booths were showcased at the concourse area outside LTJ highlighting some of our SSC projects focusing on net-zero carbon emissions with cutting-edge technologies. Also, two campus tours were organized bringing our UST members a more immersive experience in how our SSC projects are being implemented in different areas at the campus.
Despite the unwelcome visit of a typhoon, the SSC Week Opening Ceremony proceeded successfully. We were honored to have Prof Patrick Yeung, Council Vice-Chairman of HKUST, Prof TC Pong, Vice-President for Administration and Business, Prof Yang Wang, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement, Dr Kenneth Leung, Principal Assistant Secretary (Air Policy), Environment and Ecology Bureau, Hong Kong SAR, Ms Joan Leung, Member of M+ Board, Ar Benny Chan, President of HKIA, APEC Architect, and many esteemed guests from industry and educational sectors in attendance. Their presence added to the significance of the event.
The Net-Zero Journey continued through the HKUST Information Day on 14th October, 2023 where 4 out of the 10 project booths were showcased outside LTC. We were grateful to receive over 400 visitors for our sharing sessions and project booths throughout the day.
This year, we have cooperated with Prof. Changying Xiang’s team from the Division of Integrative Systems and Design on the launch of SSC Interactive Map. The map not only provides a quick look of the whole campus, but also presents different campus projects. It was showcased during the SSC Week and information day, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the diverse projects taking place on our campus.
We appreciated the involvement of everyone to be part of the SSC week and Information Day. With your support, we could organize more activities infused with sustainable concepts on campus in the near future.
