ECE Team awarded Championship of the 2009 YDC E-Challenge

The team “Tech4Enviro” led by our Department’s Year 3 students WANG Mingyu (ECE) and ZHU Shucheng (CPEG) has been awarded Championship of the 2009 YDC E-Challenge for their project titled “GPS Robotic Water Analyzer”. Their project, jointly supervised by Prof. LI Zexiang from the ECE Department and Prof. LI Xiaoyuan from the Chemistry Department, aimed to provide an economical, versatile, and efficient way of testing water quality. Their solution was to build a robotic boat with chemical sensors that can automatically navigate using GPS to monitor the water quality in target areas, and transmit the data back to the control station.

The Young Entrepreneurs Development Council Entrepreneurs' Challenge (YDC E-Challenge) is a business plan competition open to all full-time tertiary students in local tertiary institutions, and has been annually organized by YDC in collaboration with Stanford University since 2000. The competition is designed to provide students with exposure to the entrepreneurial community. It helps students to develop the skills required to facilitate an entrepreneurial spirit and mindset, through a series of workshops, business plan submissions, and oral presentations. This year, over 200 teams have entered the competition, and 8 teams have reached the final round.
