香港科技大學物理學系歐德孟教授榮膺美國物理學會院士
香港科技大學（科大）宣佈物理學系主任歐德孟教授榮膺2014年度美國物理學會院士。美國物理學會凝聚態物理分部的讚辭指出：歐德孟教授「開發及利用自旋極化低能量電子顯微鏡，以了解固體表面的物理現象。」
歐德孟教授於1991年加入科大，成為創辦物理學系的成員之一。1997年，歐德孟教授獲頒科大理學院教學獎，並由2011年起擔任物理學系主任至今。歐德孟教授研究凝聚態物理，以了解固體表面、界面及薄膜納米結構的形態、動力學、電子和磁學特性，包括擴散與生長、動力學不穩定性，以及量子尺寸效應。
美國物理學會院士頒授計劃旨在表揚一些對物理研究、領導或服務、或於科學及科技應用有卓越貢獻的會員。經過嚴謹的遴選程序，每年獲選院士的會員不多於會員總數的0.5%，因此所有獲選的院士都是備受業內人士尊崇的傑出會員。
