科大致力成為環保先鋒
香港科技大學一向以研究及學術實力著稱，但鮮為人知的是，科大也致力成為香港最環保的大學之一。在過去一年，矢志成為環保先鋒的科大努力不懈，並取得豐碩成果。
綜觀今年達成的環保里程碑，有多項計劃均由科大社群推動，當中包括完全由學生及職員組成的科大綠色小組，他們推出了環保飯盒計劃，鼓勵校園每一分子購買外賣時自備可再用器皿。計劃反應熱烈，成功節省逾2,500個即棄飯盒。
另外，推動飲用水的可持續發展亦屬優先處理事項。在2017年，科大更換了配備便利功能的飲水機，同時向所有新生免費提供刻有科大標誌的可再用水樽。此外，科大已新增三部飲水機，另將於2018年初再增加14部，而設有飲水機的主要位置亦將會配上全新裝飾及標示。不僅如此，科大在2018年正式宣佈於校園全面停止販售一公升以下的（一次性）塑膠樽裝水。
避免浪費對環保固然重要，但除此之外，回收是首選方案。去年，科大於校園內所有飯堂推行廚餘收集及回收計劃，並新增逾75個回收箱。透過與清潔承包商建立新的夥伴合作，回收分類程序的效率遠勝從前。不過，環保工作不能就此停步。科大已推出可持續發展網絡，由近30個辦事處及部門的成員組成，希望藉此加強環保工作，推動綠色辦公室。
我們亦落實了一些表面難以察覺的措施 — 在過去一年，校園設施管理處為近2,000支電燈換上高效能的LED燈泡，預計每年節省電量達160,000千瓦小時，相等於33個平均香港家庭的耗電量！
展望2018年，科大將繼續致力推動校園的可持續發展及突破性環保研究。透過以上一連串工作，科大距離實現「2020可持續發展挑戰」已邁進了一大步。
