科大致力成为环保先锋
香港科技大学一向以研究及学术实力著称，但鲜为人知的是，科大也致力成为香港最环保的大学之一。在过去一年，矢志成为环保先锋的科大努力不懈，并取得丰硕成果。
综观今年达成的环保里程碑，有多项计划均由科大社群推动，当中包括完全由学生及职员组成的科大绿色小组，他们推出了环保饭盒计划，鼓励校园每一分子购买外卖时自备可再用器皿。计划反应热烈，成功节省逾2,500个即弃饭盒。
另外，推动饮用水的可持续发展亦属优先处理事项。在2017年，科大更换了配备便利功能的饮水机，同时向所有新生免费提供刻有科大标志的可再用水樽。此外，科大已新增三部饮水机，另将于2018年初再增加14部，而设有饮水机的主要位置亦将会配上全新装饰及标示。不仅如此，科大在2018年正式宣布于校园全面停止贩卖一公升以下的（一次性）塑料樽装水。
避免浪费对环保固然重要，但除此之外，回收是首选方案。去年，科大于校园内所有饭堂推行厨余收集及回收计划，并新增逾75个回收箱。透过与清洁承包商建立新的伙伴合作，回收分类程序的效率远胜从前。不过，环保工作不能就此停步。科大已推出可持续发展网络，由近30个办事处及部门的成员组成，希望藉此加强环保工作，推动绿色办公室。
我们亦落实了一些表面难以察觉的措施 — 在过去一年，校园设施管理处为近2,000支电灯换上高效能的LED灯泡，预计每年节省电量达160,000千瓦小时，相等于33个平均香港家庭的耗电量！
展望2018年，科大将继续致力推动校园的可持续发展及突破性环保研究。透过以上一连串工作，科大距离实现「2020可持续发展挑战」已迈进了一大步。
