The Second International Workshop on Innovative Engineering Education (IEE2011) Successfully Held in Hong Kong

The Sungkyunkwan University Hub Center for Innovative Engineering Education (SKKU Hub Center), together with the Center for Engineering Education Innovation (E2I) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), organized the Second International Workshop on Innovative Engineering Education (IEE 2011). Supported by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST), Korean Government, the workshop was held on 19 - 21 January 2011 in Hong Kong. With the aims to provide a forum for reviewing and sharing good practices in innovative engineering education, this international workshop brought together 111 engineering educators from 34 universities in South Korea, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, USA, and Australia.

Following the welcome addresses by Professor Sung-Jin Song, Director of Center for Innovative Engineering Education, Sungkyunkwan University and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, and Professor Khaled Ben Letaief, Dean of Engineering, HKUST, 14 keynote and invited speakers made presentations on topics related to accreditation of engineering programs, program-level assessment of learning outcomes, faculty development, and interdisciplinary and intercultural issues in engineering education. The two keynote speakers, Professor David Radcliffe of Purdue University and Professor Elizabeth Godfrey of University of Technology Sydney, emphasized the importance of cultures and local contexts in their presentations.

The workshop, along with the post-conference workshop at HKUST on the use of pedagogies, assessment strategies, and technology in enhancing student learning, provided an excellent opportunity for participants to interact with each other and to identify opportunities for future collaboration.
