Prof Weichuan Yu won the Biomedical Wellness Pioneer Award at the 2013 SPIE DSS Meeting

At the 2013 SPIE Defense, Security, and Sensing (DSS) meeting held in Baltimore, USA, on 29 April - 3 May, Prof Weichuan Yu of ECE has received the Biomedical Wellness Pioneer Award in recognition of his pioneer contribution to Biomedical Computing. This is one of the six awards given out at the meeting.

The other five awardees are:

  • Prof Hans Feightinger from University of Vienna (Wavelet Pioneer Award),
  • Dr Hiroshi Sowada from NTT Communication Science Lab (Unsupervised Learning ICA Pioneer Award),
  • Prof Justin Romberg from Georgia Institute of Technology (Compressive Sampling Pioneer Award),
  • Prof David Gracias from Johns Hopkins University (Nanoengineering Award), and
  • Dr Yoshihiki Sasai from RIKEN Center of Developmental Biology (System Biology Award).


The SPIE DSS meeting drew more than 6,000 registered attendees and nearly 500 companies to Baltimore this year.
