香港科技大学机械及航空航天工程学系应届毕业生梁嘉朗，凭借有关缩窄航运业与环保发展方针差距的论文，勇夺知名的国际工程大奖。
Arthur L Williston奖是美国机械工程师学会的年度奖项，而梁嘉朗则是首位获得该项殊荣的香港人，亦为奖项成立62年来少数女性得奖者。她的获奖论文名为「规管燃料选择 — 缩窄国际海事组织现行标准与2025年温室气体排放目标的差距」（“Fuel Choice Regulation - The Way to Narrow the Gap Between Current IMO Marine Standard and 2025 Greenhouse Gas Emission Target”）。
机械工程学生及近届毕业生可就专门公共服务范畴提交论文，获选最佳论文的作者将赢得此奖项。梁嘉朗的论文聚焦于她对环境的关注，并阐述美国航运业如何能透过生物柴油、天然气和核能降低二氧化碳排放，同时兼顾环保成效、技术成熟度、基建配套和生命周期成本等因素。
梁嘉朗表示：「虽然工程界一向由男性主导，但身为热衷于环保工程的女性，我希望此奖项能使我获得业界肯定。」
梁嘉朗表示科大帮助她了解到机械工程与日常生活息息相关，激发起她这方面的兴趣。梁嘉朗希望以自身经历鼓励其他工程系女毕业生突破性别界限，勇于追求事业。「父母曾担心我能否适应业界环境，但我认为现时业界对女性工程师已提供相当平等的工作环境。」
她又补充，「女性工程师最大的优势是我们善于表达自己和传达想法。这正好弥补我们对比男性工程师体能上的不足。」
梁嘉朗在一家污水处理公司完成实习后，现已获正式聘用，得以在业界一展所长。
