Alumni Kaleidoscope: Kit Wong - PhD(ELEC), Mphil(ELEC), BEng(ELEC)

Kit is the Chair Professor of Wireless Communications at University College London (UCL), continuing his quest in developing technologies for future-generation wireless communications systems. His recent interest has been wild and he is always trying to think outside the box. “Of course, I am making myself look like an idiot sometimes but that is the price I am willing to pay!” he says with a laugh. His recent activities include his work in employing smart materials for indoor wireless communications, fluidic antenna systems, and AI-empowered wireless networks. One of his research ideas has been recently funded by EPSRC, which looks into the synergy and integration of AI and game theory for self-optimisation of wireless communications in 6G.

Also, since the start of 2020, he has taken up the role of Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Wireless Communications Letters. This is a prestigious leadership role that oversees the operation of a technical journal for publishing the latest research results and findings in wireless communications. Kit hopes that he can continue to serve the community and help the research area continue to grow to meet future demands.

In addition, he has continued to be a mentor for the HKU mentorship program which is the point of contact in the UK for HKU students visiting the UK. In the future, Kit hopes to host some of you from HKUST!
