孙飞教授获选2023/24年度研资局研究学者
化学及生物工程学系副教授孙飞获选为2023/24年度「研资局研究学者计划」的得奖者。 他将开展一项名为「用于轴突再生的可基因编程材料」的研究，资助额约520万港元，为期五年。
此奖项表扬孙飞教授在合成生物学和蛋白质工程的结合下，开创性地研究智能材料和光遗传学工具方面的突破性成果。 孙教授的创新方法使得从分子水平到宏观材料水平的功能转移成为可能，并带来了非平衡复杂系统中的新现象的发现。
「研资局研究学者计划」旨在为卓越非凡的副教授级学者提供教学及行政职务方面的持续研究支持，令他们可以专注于研究及发展工作，并为香港培育和培训下一代本地研究人才。 计划自2019年起推行，每年颁发10个获奖名额，涵盖所有学科。
孙教授指这个为期五年的计划给予了他充裕的时间和充足的经费支持，让他有很多自由度去作探索，从而为研究带来有趣的发现和意想不到的惊喜。 他亦会有更多时间在实验室指导学生，进行学术讨论，从而培养更多的本地新晋研究人才。
孙教授的研究小组致力于创建功能性的「活体」材料——具有生命特征的合成材料，包括生长、自愈、刺激反应和达尔文进化的能力。 通过采用材料合成生物学方法，孙教授的团队旨在创建智能材料支架和超选择性生长因子，以促进神经再生。 他的研究对合成生物学、再生医学和化学工程的学术突破及转化应用两方面都有重大的贡献。
