宋胜辉教授荣获科大杰出教学奖—祁敖卓越教学服务奖
电子及计算机工程学系工程教育副教授宋胜辉教授，在2018年获颁尊崇的科大杰出教学奖—祁敖卓越教学服务奖。这项荣誉由大学校董会于1994年设立，旨在表扬不断力争上游、献身教育及能够启迪和激励他人的教员。每年，在香港科技大学所有学院当中，一名最能体现这些优秀特质的杰出教员，会获颁这项殊荣。
宋教授在获取博士学位后，于2009年加入科大。他的主要研究范畴为统计讯号处理和无线通讯系统；而他目前的焦点，放在机器人、 机器学习及云端计算上。
当宋教授在科大开展教育生涯时，他矢志运用创新的教学方法，教导他数以千计不论是否攻读工程系的学生。他相信大学是个激发学生与生俱来学习意欲的平台。在他的所有教学中，他一直展示出卓越的教导水平，而他的教学方法所获得的评价，持续于工学院和大学位列前茅。他对教学的投入程度和热忱，获得无数教学奖项的认可，包括2012至13年度的工学院卓越教学嘉许奖，并三度入选十大最佳讲师。许多学生的毕业专题研习和本科生研究计划，均获得宋教授的指导，而它们当中，有些更获得多个奖项，包括最近在尊崇的2018年校长杯中获得金奖。
宋教授为大学在教育和学习上的发展，作出了广泛的贡献。他致力开发新的学习模式，包括大规模开放在线课程、「体验式学习」课程和混合教学模式。宋教授透过研究创新的教学和评估方法，来巩固他的教学经验，并发表论文公开他的研究发现。他在工程教育方面进行了大量研究，目前并为国际电机电子工程师学会有关教育的期刊担任副编辑。宋教授亦非常慷慨地与同事们分享他在教学上的见解。
