The Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH) 2019 was held from 11-13 November 2019 at the Singapore EXPO Convention and Exhibition Centre in Singapore. The Technology Transfer Center (TTC) of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) led HKUST research teams to join the exhibition to showcase cutting-edge HKUST technology.
Holding in conjunction with Singapore FinTech Festival (SFF) and TECHINNOVATION, SWITCH is a platform where scientific discoveries and advancements are transformed into disruptive technology applications that will redefine the way of living. In view of SWITCH’s focuses on deep technology applications in the areas of manufacturing, urban solutions, health and biomedical sciences and digital services, TTC showcased 16 HKUST inventions with 50 patent applications filed in three main technology areas: Biotechnology, Electronics & Information and Communication Technology and Smart Materials.
Gathering people interested in technology from around the world, SWITCH provides opportunity to showcase HKUST research outcome, letting our research team connect with potential collaborators and collect feedback from market. Among 16 HKUST inventions displayed, the live demonstration of water distillation system drew the most attention and brought in follow up enquiries. One of the major organisers, Intellectual Property Intermediary (IPI) of Singapore, visited the HKUST booth for this demonstration, and assigned a dedicated manager to follow up with the technology. Apart from water distillation system, discussion was made with Apple Singapore Office for the indoor positioning technology.
“SWITCH is a good platform for identifying new technologies for business transformation and where collaborations can be formed. It is a good place for gathering entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, innovators and industry professionals from diverse backgrounds,” said one of the HKUST research team members, “I think SWITCH is an international event which attracts visitors who are eager to explore overseas innovation technologies. This is a suitable event for us to expose our research results.” TTC will continue to explore opportunities for promoting HKUST technology to enhance technology development and transfer to the benefit of society.
