香港科技大學賽馬會大樓開幕 推動全人教育及環保設施
香港科技大學（科大）昨為科大賽馬會大樓舉行開幕典禮，新宿舍座落於將軍澳，為本科生提供512個宿位。為答謝香港賽馬會對科大慷慨捐助三千三百萬港元，協助學生體驗「四年一宿」，大學將該校外宿舍命名為「賽馬會大樓」。
香港賽馬會慈善及社區事務執行總監張亮先生在開幕禮上表示：「香港賽馬會慈善信託基金早於八十年代末期撥款二十億港元支持興建科大，雙方的夥伴關係始於這個重要的計劃，穩健的基礎有助科大在創校初期專注發展軟件配套。我們很高興在實踐工作時能夠與本地的大學建立密切夥伴關係，充分發揮他們的專業知識和於業界的領導能力，為香港創造更大和可持續社會效益。」其它主禮嘉賓包括科大校長陳繁昌教授，以及大學其他管理層成員。
陳校長感謝賽馬會的慷慨支持，讓大學得以進一步充實同學的大學生活。他說﹕「科大一直努力實踐全人教育的願景，我們希望於課程以外，為同學提供額外的學習機會，於地區社群中融入生活及學習的元素，讓他們擁有更豐富的個人體驗。」
樓高九層的宿舍共有64個單位，每個單位設有4個雙人房間，兩個共用洗手間及一個客廳。新宿舍旨在融入社區，除會開放宿舍公共空間予社區使用，更鼓勵宿生參與或自發性舉辦社區服務計劃，包括為貧困學生補習，或到附近學校和醫院進行探訪活動等。
新宿舍採納多項環保設計，包括按實際耗電量收費的「用者自付空調系統」、裝置於走廊和電梯大堂的動作感測照明系統，以及戶外太陽能燈柱等，以盡量減少耗電。新宿舍亦具有善用自然光、促進空氣流通和循環使用雨水灌溉等概念。
賽馬會大樓是科大第10座本科生宿舍，科大現為本科生提供逾4,500個宿位。
