瞥見大數據及人工智能的未來
香港科技大學（科大）大數據研究所於2017年5月26日舉辦首屆大數據及人工智能日。世界級專家及業內名人獲邀與科大的學者作全面交流，討論這範疇的未來發展。
是次活動吸引超過500名嘉賓和學生出席，當中包括本地和海外學者、大數據及人工智能相關行業的領袖、政府代表，以及來自本地和海外大專院校的學生。
數據科學是科大五個策略性發展方向之一，而大數據研究所的成立，正是為了促進這個領域的研究和提供教育，因此設有數據科學科技理學學士和副修大數據科技課程。與大數據研究所合作的研究員和機構遍布世界各地，包括中國的騰訊和神州數碼，以及法國泰雷茲集團，反映這領域已成為全球焦點。
對於近期Alpha Go擊敗中國圍棋棋王，科大校長陳繁昌教授表示：「大數據及人工智能正以驚人的步伐發展。從大數據研究得出的數據和分析將深切改變我們的世界。」
在全球頂尖學者討論大數據及人工智能研究最新發展之際，大數據研究所主任、新明工程學教授楊強教授聯同其他科大教授介紹了大學在這領域的研究成果，範疇包括深層學習、機器學習、語言和語文處理、圖像識別和智慧城市。楊強教授說：「科大在大數據和人工智能的研究方面處於世界前沿，可以帶領香港擁抱這革命。」
是次深入的學術交流的壓軸環節是專家討論，學生藉此能更深入了解大數據及人工智能將如何影響他們的事業發展。科大理學院院長汪揚教授指：「大數據及人工智能帶來無限可能。當下一年舉辦大數據及人工智能日時，我們可能已活於截然不同的世界。」
