Sydney-Hong Kong Ideation Exchange Program 2019 – Turning ideas into reality
The second year of partnership with Macquarie University for the Sydney-Hong Kong Ideation Exchange Program was successfully taken place from 7 July to 20 July. Under the theme of the Global Goals, 32 students from Macquarie University and HKUST with different backgrounds in majors joined together to work out ideas to solve problems.

The 2-week program was kicked off with a warm welcoming from Macquarie University Incubator and some team building games to warm up the whole group. During the first week of the Program in Sydney, a series of workshops were held for the participants to familiarize with topics from sustainable development and design to customer discovery, international marketing and pitching. They teamed up to work on and pitch a solution to a problem set by MQ-MTS research collaboration, looking specifically at the new North-West Metro.

Bringing their ideas back to Hong Kong, the second week of the Program was mainly transforming ideas into prototypes. The teams learnt the knowledge to build the hardware prototype from the Makeblock workshop and got the chance to tailor some parts of the prototypes in the lab of the Mills Fabrica with various machinery (e.g. 3D printing, laser cutting, seamless bonding technology, etc.)

One of the highlights of the Program was the Final Pitch and Demo Day. Staff from HKUST Entrepreneurship Center, Macquarie University and other guests were invited to sit in for the judging process. Each team presented their idea and showcased their prototype to the audience and the top two teams were selected by voting based on the ideas and effort being paid. The Program eventually came to an end with innovative and concrete ideas.
