香港科技大學工程科技及計算機科學排名全港第一
香港科技大學（科大）於工程/科技及計算機科學領域中再獲評選為全港第一。上海交通大學世界一流大學研究中心早前發表「2011年世界大學學術排名」(ARWU)，有關排名自2007年首次推出以來，科大在工程及相關領域一直保持領先地位。
科大工學院院長李德富教授說：「科大的工程學領域一直獲工程界評價甚高，穩佔前列位置，關鍵在於教研人員及學生表現卓越。我們未來會繼續努力，將科大發展成為吸引全球頂尖人才及學生的教育及科研中心。」
「2011年世界大學學術排名」中，科大在工程／科技及計算機科學於全球排名位列第36名，較去年的第39名上升3位;科大在過去一直躋身全球前40名。今年，科大的排名較國際頂級大學優勝，包括美國哈佛大學(第38名)、中國清華大學(第45名)、英國牛津大學(第46名)、美國哥倫比亞大學(第49名)及加州大學(爾灣分校）(第50名)。
「世界大學學術排名」以大學的科研成果和學術表現作主要指標，包括獲諾貝爾獎和菲爾茲獎的校友和教師數目、各學科領域被引用次數最高的科學家數目、在《自然》（Nature）和《科學》（Science）期刊發表的論文數目、科學引文索引（SCIE）和社會科學引文索引（SSCI）收錄的論文數量等。今年新增加兩項評選指標，包括研究成果獲首兩成世界最高水平期刊刊登的百分比，以及工程研究的開支金額等。全球每年超過1,000間大學被評選，而主辦單位則公佈表現最理想的500間大學名次。
此外，科大的計算機科學亦連續第二年獲ARWU評為大中華地區的首位。計算機科學類別排名於2009公佈以來，科大表現一直理想，今年的位置由去年的第26名大幅躍升至第21名，排名創歷史新高。
