科大增设奖学金鼓励优秀新生
香港科技大学(科大) 在新学年(2007至08年度)，将增加奖学金额，给予循「大学联招」(联招) 途径入学的优异生、或学业成绩之外具特殊才华与表现的学生，以鼓励他们入学后，专心学习。获最高奖学金的学生，可以享有全期奖学金，包括学费和津贴，每年约10万港元。
科大得到社会各界鼎力捐款资助，设立丰富的奖学金计划，以吸引优秀的新生报读，鼓励他们在大学努力学习。科大的奖学金计划十分全面，为循不同途径入学的优异生而设，包括联招、「优先取录计划」及「直接入读计划」。除学业成绩以外，那些积极服务社会、或具特殊才华及表现的学生，都可申领。奖学金计划旨在吸引在各方面具有潜质的学生，让他们的潜能得到更充份的发挥。
循联招途径入学的学生，在高级程度会考考获2A或以上，可领取奖学金，每年可得金额由港币$15,000起，至相等于全年学费(港币$42,100) 加港币$55,000津贴，即每年约10万港元。新生入读大学后成绩理想，可续领奖学金。例如修读三年本科课程，学生可连续三年享有奖学金，总额最高可达港币$300,000。
至于具特殊才华和表现的学生，每年奖学金为港币$15,000，得奖者可续领，直至完成课程为止。奖学金评审的准则包括：对社会服务或学生活动有杰出贡献，或者在体育、音乐、艺术及文化等方面有优异表现。
科大署理副校长（学术事务）钱大康教授表示：「科大增加奖学金总额，让学生入学后，可以更专心、更努力学习。事实上，科大一向十分着重招收优秀学生，包括学业成绩优异，以及在学业成绩以外，具特殊才能和潜质的优秀青年，使他们能够一展所长，发挥才华。优秀人才是社会未来的生力军，须要我们悉心培育。」
