科大举行首个「英国-香港」前线科学研讨会
全球年青科学精英今日（星期三）云集香港科技大学（科大），参与首个「英国-香港」前线科学研讨会。该研讨会由英国皇家学会及裘槎基金会联合赞助，讨论科学的前沿问题，包括干细胞和传染病等范畴。
研讨会主办单位邀请了七十个来自英国及本港的年青科学家，就各自的科学研究领域进行三日（1月16日至18日）的会晤及交流。
前线科学研讨会为来自全球不同地方的科学家，提供一个重要平台，让他们互相分享和交流科研成果和前沿构思。近年，英美等国与不同地区举办很多同类型的研讨会，促进科研发展。
多位英国著名大学的学者今日亦前来香港参加研讨会，包括来自：牛津大学、剑桥大学、巴斯大学、布里司托大学、爱丁堡大学、格拉斯哥大学、利兹大学、莱斯特大学、伦敦大学、曼彻斯特大学、诺定咸大学、锡菲尔德大学、圣安德鲁大学、华威大学和帝国理工学院等学府。各自研究不同的科学范畴，包括纳米科技、神经生物学、生物医学和生物化学等等。
钱大康教授致词时表示，他期望这次在科大举办的前线科学研讨会，可以开创本港学术先河，香港正迈向知识型社会，科学是促进发展的重要元素。
在科大举行的前线科学研讨会由科大署理校长钱大康教授及英国皇家学会的外务秘书 Lorna Casselton 教授主持开幕礼。英国皇家学会成立于1660年，是世界上历史最悠久而从未间断的科学学会。
