科大教授把流动电话变为媒体中心
科大电子及计算机工程学系区子廉教授成功发展了一项全球崭新科技Pan-V，把流动电话变成一个小型媒体中心，供全球商业应用。
区教授在今日（10月9日）的记者招待会上表示：「一直以来，可供用家下载到流动电话的影像或音讯，选择不多。现在，用家却可以透过Pan-V，随时随地把家中各种收费或免费的录像或音讯包括从电视、影碟、监察录影机、电子相机取得的影像或音讯资料，遥控下载到流动电话上使用。大大扩阔了流动电话的用途而无需增加消费者的经济负担。」
这项名為Pan-V的崭新科技，把电脑与电视、监察系统及视听器材连结起来，然后利用流匯网络，把已录製或现场播放的视像或声音档案，发放到用家的遥距接收站，包括流动电话、电子手帐、及手提电脑等。Pan-V的独特功能，使用家可以遥控转台或选台、啟动或终止录音或录影。
Pan-V的设计，完全符合数据处理及通讯的国际标準，可以在世界上任何角落使用。Pan-V的兼容性极佳，用家即使以价格相宜，构造简单的流动电话型号，仍可使用这项科技，而无需在电话加装任何电脑软件。
「这项崭新科技，将会革新现时流动电话的使用模式，进一步改善我们的生活，是大学、企业及政府叁结合所缔结的美好成果。」区教授表示。
以往流动电话的资料用量以Kb计算，所费不菲，令消费者却步。本港的流动电话网络商，却提供收费套餐，让消费者可以用更相宜的价格，享用这种服务。其中一家流动电话网络商，更以观看录像时间长短，来徵收费用，令收费更為吸引。
这项崭新科技，已由研究计划的合作伙伴，安科移动电讯（环球）有限公司取得发展权。计划由创新科技署资助。
