T&M-DDP Executive Forum Series: Embracing The Power of Internet by Mr. Bin Lin, Co-founder and President of Xiaomi Corporation
Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management (T&M-DDP) was honored to invite Mr. Bin Lin, Co-founder and President of Xiaomi Corporation to be the guest speaker of T&M-DDP Executive Forum on 4 Mar 2016. Over 100 students joined the Forum and were inspired by Mr. Lin, an engineer pursuing for innovation and startup, who is a fantastic role model for T&M-DDP students, with his career path starting as an entry software engineer at Microsoft. Within 9 years, he rose to Director of Engineering of Microsoft Advanced Technology Center, followed by another stellar career at Google as Director of Engineering in Beijing for 5 years.
Mr. Lin co-founded Xiaomi with angel investor Mr. Lei Jun in April 2010 with the belief of “high-quality technology doesn't need to cost a fortune” and they gathered experts from renowned Internet and technology companies worldwide to bring that vision to life. With 5 years of hard work, Xiaomi is a multi-billion dollar company, and Mr. Lin has made the list of world’s billionaires according to Forbes magazine.
Mr. Lin came out on stage on a Ninebot Segway showing the innovative and energetic image of Xiaomi. Xiaomi has disrupted not just China, but world’s mobile markets by producing low cost high-specs smartphones and quickly risen to a major player in Asia market beating out other big brands in just few years. Mr. Lin showcased Xiaomi’s products and shared his valuable experiences of startup journey and how innovation drove him throughout his career at Microsoft, Google and Xiaomi.
