CPEG Student, Charlie Zhu Shucheng, Takes 1st Prize in IEEE HK Section (UG) Student Paper Contest
Charlie Zhu Shucheng, year two Computer Engineering student, has been awarded "First Prize" in the IEEE Hong Kong Section 2007 (UG) Student Paper Contest.
The award winning paper titled "P2P (Peer-to-Peer) Content Protection" was written as Charlie made his research debut in the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) during summer of 2007. Under the supervision of Prof Gary Chan, Director of Computer Engineering Program, Charlie's research project focused on two important content protection technologies for a peer-to-peer device system.
By adding unique hardware ID information in the encryption key, Charlie's research enhances the security of the widely used Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology that protects digital media files. At the same time, to discourage the collusion of pirates from attacking fingerprint in analog signal, the Collusion-Secure Fingerprint is constructed based on the Assumption of Collusion. The improved DRM combined with Collusion-Secure Fingerprint can be a desirable solution for the owners' rights.
The IEEE Hong Kong Section Student Paper Contest aims to encourage tertiary students in Hong Kong to apply their engineering knowledge to research projects in electrical and electronic engineering. In addition to awarding the First Prize of the (UG) Student Paper Contest, the IEEE Hong Kong Section has elected Charlie's paper to join the IEEE Region 10 Student Paper Contests. The IEEE Region 10, also referred as the Asia Pacific Region, covers a geographical area stretching from and in the north-east to in the south, and in the west. With a membership of over 67,000, it is one of the largest regions in IEEE.
