Industrial Engineering Professor Won 3 Prestigious Awards
A HKUST Professor’s contributions in industrial engineering were universally recognized with the presentation of three prestigious awards by the world’s largest professional society in industrial engineering last week.
Adding to his recently-received distinguished IIE Fellow 2010 Award from the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), Prof Fugee Tsung, Head of Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management, also earned another two supreme accolades - IIE Transactions 2009 Best Paper Award and Outstanding IIE Publication Award. The three awards were presented at the Industrial Engineering Research Conference held in Cancun, from 5 to 9 June 2010.
His research paper entitled ‘Statistical monitoring of multi-stage processes based on engineering models’ has secured the Outstanding IIE Publication Award. The award recognizes an outstanding publication across all IIE focused issues and journals and is a considerable achievement for a research academic in the field.
The same paper also won the 2009 Best Paper Award in flagship journal IIE Transactions. It is the second time Prof Tsung has won such award.
Prof Tsung has also received the IIE Fellow 2010 Award - the highest honor bestowed by the organization in recognition of his significant contributions in industrial engineering. He has become one of the only five fellows of IIE in the Greater China Region.
Founded in 1948, IIE is the world's largest professional society dedicated solely to the support of the industrial engineering profession and individuals involved with improving quality and productivity. IIE is an international, nonprofit association that provides leadership in the application, education, training, research, and development of various aspects of industrial engineering, including healthcare, service operations, manufacturing and logistics, ergonomics, and lean and Six Sigma professionals.
Prof Tsung received both his master's and doctorate degrees in industrial and operations engineering from the University of Michigan and his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from National Taiwan University. He joined HKUST in 1997.
