ECE students, Kwan Kwok To and Leung San Yiu, Won President’s Cup 2008
Kwan Kwok To and Leung San Yiu, Electronic and Computer Engineering, championed the HKUST President’s Cup 2008 on the topic “Fully On-chip Charge Pump with Reversion Loss Reduction,” while Xu Yi, Tsui Tsz Kwan, and Wong Tim Tat closely followed with the Gold Award on the topic “Humanoid Robot.”
Inspired by the practical need to develop a durable battery, Kwan Kwok To and Leung San Yiu successfully demonstrated an improved solution to enable batteries to work with various voltage loading while consuming less power than conventional approaches. Their excellent engineering problem identification and innovative circuit design therefore rightly earned them the Championship title.
Another ECE team, Xu Yi, Tsui Tsz Kwan, and Wong Tim Tat, built a human-like robot which can detect and follow human motion in real time. Such technology potentially enables robots to perform various tasks under adverse conditions for human. The team is recognized by the Gold Award.
The President’s Cup was launched in 2002 as an annual event for undergraduate students to compete for the awards based on outstanding achievements in research and innovation.
