科大舉行首個「英國-香港」前線科學研討會
全球年青科學精英今日（星期三）雲集香港科技大學（科大），參與首個「英國-香港」前線科學研討會。該研討會由英國皇家學會及裘槎基金會聯合贊助，討論科學的前沿問題，包括幹細胞和傳染病等範疇。
研討會主辦單位邀請了七十個來自英國及本港的年青科學家，就各自的科學研究領域進行三日（1月16日至18日）的會晤及交流。
前線科學研討會為來自全球不同地方的科學家，提供一個重要平台，讓他們互相分享和交流科研成果和前沿構思。近年，英美等國與不同地區舉辦很多同類型的研討會，促進科研發展。
多位英國著名大學的學者今日亦前來香港參加研討會，包括來自：牛津大學、劍橋大學、巴斯大學、布里司托大學、愛丁堡大學、格拉斯哥大學、里茲大學、萊斯特大學、倫敦大學、曼徹斯特大學、諾定咸大學、錫菲爾德大學、聖安德魯大學、華威大學和帝國理工學院等學府。各自研究不同的科學範疇，包括納米科技、神經生物學、生物醫學和生物化學等等。
錢大康教授致詞時表示，他期望這次在科大舉辦的前線科學研討會，可以開創本港學術先河，香港正邁向知識型社會，科學是促進發展的重要元素。
在科大舉行的前線科學研討會由科大署理校長錢大康教授及英國皇家學會的外務秘書 Lorna Casselton 教授主持開幕禮。英國皇家學會成立於1660年，是世界上歷史最悠久而從未間斷的科學學會。
