科大吳宏偉教授成為香港首位學者 榮膺全球最大土力工程學會理事
香港科技大學(科大)工學院副院長吳宏偉教授最近榮獲國際岩土力學及土力工程學會(International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering ISSMGE)委任為12位理事會成員之一，成為擔任這要職的首位香港學者。他亦成為該會於1936年創立以來第三位擔當這領導角色的華人。首兩位獲委任加入理事會的華人分別是來自台北的莫若楫教授和來自北京的中國科學院院士陳祖煜教授。
吳宏偉教授是科大工學院副院長、岩土工程離心機實驗所主任，以及土木及環境工程學系教授。他於2010年6月在莫斯科舉行的國際岩土力學及土力工程學會理事會會議上，獲會長委任為理事。該會的理事每四年選舉和委任一次。
作為全球最大的岩土力學和土力工程專業學會，國際岩土力學及土力工程學會有71個成員國，代表16,500位個人成員。它旨在促進從事土力工程和環境應用行業的工程師和科學家合作，進行深入研究，並傳播有關的知識。
吳教授說：「我相信我的委任，可以提高科大和香港的國際知名度以及在土力工程方面的貢獻。」
吳宏偉教授是土力工程學的權威，他於1992年在布里斯托(Bristol)大學取得博士學位。2005年，他獲英國劍橋大學邱吉爾學院選為海外院士。他也獲多家專業組織頒發資深會員榮銜，包括英國土木工程學會(Institution of Civil Engineers)、美國土木工程師學會(American Society of Civil Engineers)、香港工程師學會，並獲選為香港工程科學學院(Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences)院士。最近，他獲中國教育部選為長江學者(講座教授)。
多年來，吳教授曾在很多國際會議和研討會演講及作報告。他也獲頒多個國際獎項，以表揚他在業內的卓越貢獻。這些獎項包括英國結構工程師學會(Institution of Structural Engineers(UK) )Henry Adams獎、東南亞地質科技學會(Southeast Asian Geotechnical Society)頒發的首個Tan Swan Beng獎、中國岩土力學及土力工程學會(Chinese Institute of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering)頒發的茅以升土力學及岩土工程青年獎(Mao Yisheng Youth Award)，以及由加拿大土力工程學會(Canadian Geotechnical Society)頒發的RM Quigley獎。目前，吳教授是國際知名的加拿大土力工程學報(Canadian Geotechnical Journal)的副編輯。他也是世界多份主要土力工程學報的編輯委員會成員。
