勞敏慈教授獲選香港工程科學院院士
土木及環境工程學系講座教授勞敏慈獲選為2023年度香港工程科學院院士。本屆共有13位人士獲選，名單於2023年12月12日舉行的第30屆香港工程科學院年度大會上公布，頒授儀式已於2024年1月29日順利舉行。
勞敏慈教授是國際知名學者，她研發利用鐵基納米材料和光催化材料去除水中和地下環境中的重金屬、有機物和新興污染物（如抗生素），並探索利用這些材料去除污染物的基礎原理，是同類研究的先驅。勞教授的研究具有開創性、創新性、可持續性，且研究成果的應用符合經濟效益。此外，她亦針對建築材料、商業和住宅建築以及污水處理過程進行生命周期評估、碳足跡、淨零排放和科學基礎減碳目標倡議的研究。
勞教授曾獲多項國際榮譽和獎項，包括歐洲科學與人文學院院士、香港工程師學會院士、美國土木工程師學會院士。自2020年史丹福大學公布全球最頂尖2%科學家以來，勞教授每年均位列其中。
過去三年，工學院共有六名教授獲選為香港工程科學院院士，包括2022年當選的劉堅能教授和穆樂思教授、2021年當選的郭毅可教授，以及2020年當選的李德富教授、鄭光廷教授和張黔教授。
