張福民教授獲選2024年度電機電子工程師學會會士
香港科技大學（科大）鄭家純機器人研究院院長張福民教授，兼電子及計算機工程學系和機械及航空航天工程學系講座教授，獲選電機電子工程師學會（IEEE）的2024年度會士，令擁有IEEE會士名銜的科大工學院教員總數增至45人。
此項殊榮表彰張教授「對機械人傳感網絡自主化及水下機械人控制的貢獻」。他的研究專長包括海洋機械人與自主系統、移動傳感器與執行器網絡、生物啟發的分布式主動感知以及人與自主系統的交互與集成。目前，他還擔任香港科技大學—博智林機器人聯合研究院院長。
張教授於2023年1月加入科大，在此前擔任美國喬治亞理工學院電機及計算機工程學院的院長教授，及該校的決策及控制實驗室主任，他自2007年起於該校任教。他於2004年獲得馬里蘭大學（帕克分校）電氣工程博士學位，並於2004年至2007年在普林斯頓大學從事博士後研究。
張教授於2009年獲得美國國家科學基金會CAREER獎，2010年獲得美國國家航空和航天局青年研究員計劃獎，並在國際、國家和機構層面獲得多項榮譽和獎勵。他還在IEEE控制系統學會、IEEE機械人與自動化學會和IEEE海洋工程學會擔任領導職務。
IEEE會士銜是為表揚對電機及電子工程領域具有卓著成就的人士而設，不止是IEEE最高級別的會員資格和科技界公認的榮譽，也是獲獎人的重要事業成就。IEEE會員遍布190多個國家，總人數超過42萬人，每年獲獎的人數不超過有投票權的IEEE會員總數的0.1%。
