科大教授把流動電話變為媒體中心
科大電子及計算機工程學系區子廉教授成功發展了一項全球嶄新科技Pan-V，把流動電話變成一個小型媒體中心，供全球商業應用。
區教授在今日（10月9日）的記者招待會上表示：「一直以來，可供用家下載到流動電話的影像或音訊，選擇不多。現在，用家卻可以透過Pan-V，隨時隨地把家中各種收費或免費的錄像或音訊包括從電視、影碟、監察錄影機、電子相機取得的影像或音訊資料，遙控下載到流動電話上使用。大大擴闊了流動電話的用途而無需增加消費者的經濟負擔。」
這項名為Pan-V的嶄新科技，把電腦與電視、監察系統及視聽器材連結起來，然後利用流匯網絡，把已錄製或現場播放的視像或聲音檔案，發放到用家的遙距接收站，包括流動電話、電子手帳、及手提電腦等。Pan-V的獨特功能，使用家可以遙控轉台或選台、啟動或終止錄音或錄影。
Pan-V的設計，完全符合數據處理及通訊的國際標準，可以在世界上任何角落使用。Pan-V的兼容性極佳，用家即使以價格相宜，構造簡單的流動電話型號，仍可使用這項科技，而無需在電話加裝任何電腦軟件。
「這項嶄新科技，將會革新現時流動電話的使用模式，進一步改善我們的生活，是大學、企業及政府三結合所締結的美好成果。」區教授表示。
以往流動電話的資料用量以Kb計算，所費不菲，令消費者卻步。本港的流動電話網絡商，卻提供收費套餐，讓消費者可以用更相宜的價格，享用這種服務。其中一家流動電話網絡商，更以觀看錄像時間長短，來徵收費用，令收費更為吸引。
這項嶄新科技，已由研究計劃的合作伙伴，安科移動電訊（環球）有限公司取得發展權。計劃由創新科技署資助。
