深圳北京大学香港科技大学医学中心举行科研基地奠基典礼
深圳北京大学香港科技大学医学中心于1月下旬，举行教学科研基地奠基典礼，出席嘉宾包括深圳市卫生局党委书记、局长江捍平、深圳市委常委、常务副市长刘应力、深圳市副市长梁道行、北京大学医学部副主任方伟岗教授，以及香港科技大学副校长（行政及总务）黄玉山教授。
科大副校长黄玉山教授表示，医学中心的科研教学楼建成后，必定可以为医学教育和科研提供更先进的配套和设备，使医学中心继续发扬北京大学、香港科技大学与深圳本地的合作优势，在各方面取得长足的发展，开创更广的前台。
深圳北京大学香港科技大学医学中心由深圳市政府、北京大学、香港科技大学三家合作建设，2001年经深圳市政府批准，设立为正局级事业单位，同年9月26日正式挂牌。医学中心于2004年10月着手筹建生物医学研究所，并聘任了科大生物化学系主任叶玉如教授担任所长。
黄玉山教授表示，成立医学中心的目的，在于充份利用北京大学、香港科技大学两所院校的整体医疗、教学、科研力量和广泛的国际交流和合作关系，借鉴国外医学中心模式，创建一个以临床为中心，整合科研、教学、医疗、产业于一体的新型医学中心。黄教授指出，「今天的奠基典礼，标志着这项强强合作计划的一个新里程。」医学中心经过去四年运作，在这个基础上，今后三方的合作，将取得更丰硕的成果。
深圳北京大学香港科技大学医学中心教学科研基地及医院外科住院等设施，总建筑面积达22万平方米。科研基地的科教楼初步预计于2008年底落成。
