70 Regional Teams Being Awarded RMB1.4 Million in the HKUST-Yuexiu Group One-Million-Dollar Entrepreneurship Grand Final Competition 2019

 

With the generous support of Yuexiu Group and community partners as well as collaborative efforts of the HKUST campuses in Clear Water Bay and Mainland China, the HKUST-Yuexiu Group One-Million-Dollar Entrepreneurship Grand Final Competition 2019 (“Competition”) was successfully held in Nansha, Guangzhou, from 5 to 6 September 2019.

 

Since its initial launch in Hong Kong in 2011 and later expansion to Mainland China in 2016, the Competition has been well recognized as a structured and effective platform for promoting innovation and entrepreneurship at local, regional and global levels.

 

This year, the Competition gathered a total of 1,267 teams in the regional competitions in Hong Kong, Beijing, Foshan, Guangzhou, Macau, Shenzhen and Zhongshan.  Among them, 70 teams specializing in fields of artificial intelligence (AI), big data, smart finance, biotechnology, healthcare and advanced manufacturing entered the Grand Final held in Nansha.

 

The Grand Final was kick-started by a day of Entrepreneurship Festival filled with exhibitions showcasing competing startups’ ideas, talents and prototypes, teambuilding activities, value-added workshops hosted by Deloitte China and Hong Kong Cyberport and exclusive networking/ mentoring opportunities with professionals and investors from various industries, all of which were conducive to enriching the entrepreneurial experience of the teams.

 

Following the Festival was the Grand Final competition, when all teams strived to outshine one another through their concise pitches to compete for over 60 awards amounting to a total of RMB1.4 million. The 12 most popular teams were also granted an additional 2-minute pitching opportunity for the “HKUST Red Bird Cup”, one of the highlights of the Grand Final. Ultimately, eFlexPV Limited (China) (深圳易柔光伏科技有限公司) from Shenzhen won the championship, while teams from Foshan and Shenzhen (廣東互典緩冲材料技術有限公司 and EZassay Biotech (深圳易致生物科技有限公司) attained the 2nd and 3rd Runner-up awards.

 

Organized by the HKUST Entrepreneurship Center, the HKUST One-Million-Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition and the Grand Final Competition are joint effort by the HKUST School of Business and Management (HKUST SBM), HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School (HKUST FYTGS), HKUST Shenzhen Research Institute (HKUST SRI), HKUST LED-FPD Technology R&D Center at Foshan, HKUST Nanhan Innovation Center, HKUST – Country Garden Guangdong Bright Dream Robotic Co. Ltd.,HKUST – Zhongshan Joint Innovation Center, University of Macau.
