HKUST Engineering is No. 1 in Greater China and World’s No. 21

The just released prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings of Top 100 Universities for Engineering and Technology 2013-14 ranked HKUST first in Greater China and 21st globally. HKUST Engineering has moved up two places from last year and continues to propel forward at the forefront of the league table. HKUST has hit the No. 1 spot in Greater China for three straight years.

Placed 21st globally, HKUST is ahead of Tsinghua (24th), University of Tokyo (27th), Columbia (30th), UC San Diego (43rd), and Purdue (50th). The University is one of only two universities from Hong Kong ranked among the top 50. The rankings are based on teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.

Dean of Engineering Prof Khaled Ben Letaief said, "The notable global recognition achieved by the School attests to our academic excellence and the distinction of our faculty and students. We will continue to make our best endeavors to drive groundbreaking research and transformative education as a global center of excellence."

HKUST engineering’s outstanding capabilities have been highlighted by its consistent top-tier standing across a series of global rankings surveys. The QS World University Rankings by Faculty 2013 - Engineering and Technology published last month put HKUST at No. 19. The School will continue to pursue excellence and make greater global impact in innovation, research and education.
