Prof. King Lun YEUNG is awarded a GTF project on Carbon-Negative, Green, Circular Technology for Interception and Revalorization of FOG Waste from Catering Industry
The Green Technology Fund (GTF) has been established to support Hong Kong’s research and development projects in decarbonization and enhancement of environmental protection. Under its stringent criteria and a rigorous selection process, Prof. King Lun YEUNG has successfully secured significant funding of over three million Hong Kong dollars for his pioneering research endeavors in waste management and reduction.
This project contributes to decarbonization, sustainable and renewable energy, and waste reduction to support the territory’s carbon neutrality goals and create a clean and sustainable economy. Prof. Yeung and his team have developed a new and more efficient fat, oil, and grease (FOG) interceptor that helps to alleviate sewage blockage and overflow issues, which has caused severe environmental damage such as property flooding, drainage corrosion, and malodor. In addition, this advanced ceramic sorbent for FOG is designed to preserve FOG quality and enable it to be reused and recycled into eco-friendly products and the production of 7,000 tons of clean hydrogen from FOG waste, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
